PortMiami’s cruise terminal expansion

PortMiami’s cruise terminal expansion

Florida tourism is a huge factor in the state’s economy. Tourism is enabled by the airports and water ports of Florida. Specifically, the water ports are of keen interest to coastal engineers and city planners. They seek to meet the current and future demands in both imports for the local economy and the tourism industry. The cruise ship tourism industry “will only increase in passenger demand in the coming decade”; according to the Port of Miami 2035 Master Plan. Florida leads the nation in the cruise industry, and Miami has been dominant until recently. PortMiani aims to be the leader again soon by building terminals to increase capabilities. Florida has a cruise passenger annual growth rate of 3.9% per year.  Miami’s cruise-increased passenger traffic will be encouraged and solved by increased terminals. The project of the reconstruction of MSC Miami cruise terminal of PortMiami will enhance the terminal’s capacity and accessibility. It will be the first terminal for returning ships and the largest of all the Miami cruise terminals. The enhancement will encourage more tourism and fuel economic growth throughout the state. It will accomplish this by having the ability to service three berths and 36,000 passengers daily. The project includes a state-of-the-art terminal, parking garages, a new bulkhead system, and a more maneuverable depth of -38 feet.
